Sustainability
Partnering with people in Kelafo Ethiopia in sustainable ways
Mobile Resource Teachers
Two of the original villages that used to receive support from the Mobile Resource Teacher are now running their schools independently. Our qualified teacher feels that the teachers at these schools have now had sufficient training and are capable of teaching the curriculum effectively. Parent Councils are also in place in both of these villages so the government-hired teachers are constantly monitored and held accountable. We will continue to check in with these villages but we now have the opportunity to bring our Mobile Resource Teacher to two new villages! We are very excited that our support has helped to create quality and sustainable education.
Literacy Classes
We are happy to report that two of our original villages have taken over the management of their literacy classes. A couple of the women who graduated from the courses are now teaching along with the assistance of some local teenagers. This has allowed us to move our Literacy Classes into two new villages that have been anxiously awaiting our assistance.
Teacher Training Institutes
The Educators Leadership Institute uses a five-year plan with the goal of providing professional development to as many educators as possible within the five years. The Institute uses a “train the trainer” model so that the teachers who attend the conference are then able to transfer their knowledge to other co-workers once returning home. It is our goal to reach 1500 educators throughout the five years. If each of these teachers reaches out and shares their learning with a couple of their co-workers we will be able to reach a huge number of teachers.
