Bathrooms for Girls
One of the biggest obstacles preventing girls from attending school is that there are no girl’s bathrooms at the schools. Some schools have no bathrooms and others have just one which is used by the boys. That means when girls do go to school they have to go the entire day without using a bathroom.
E4 Change has funded the construction of 3 bathrooms so far. One girl’s bathroom in Kalaman and bathrooms in Dariko. We have plans to build more bathrooms in 2021.

Teacher Workspaces
The schools in the Somali region of Ethiopia do not have any spaces for the teachers to work. They are basically just 2 – 4 classrooms in a row. Teachers in some villages built spaces so that they could meet and collaborate with each other. We would like to assist other villages with the resources to build more spaces where teachers can meet and collaborate. In particular, we wish to support the teachers who attend our Summer Training Institute to be able to meet with other teachers at their school and transfer the knowledge that they learned.

Water Wells
The schools do not have any water fountains or sinks with running water which many Canadian students are accustomed to. This means that students must go all day without any drinks. We are hoping to build water wells at as many schools as possible so that students will always have access to clean water.
Communities also want to incorporate handwashing stations into the wells which will help improve student hygiene.
